I’ve been writing as long as I remember. It’s a gift handed down from my late Mum, who wrote a lot of poetry in her time – some of which has appeared here. I thought I had a great blog, and was really growing as a writer. I didn’t think I needed too much help.
But then I encountered Jeff Goins. A wonderful man, with great integrity, and someone who works very very hard on his writing. A man of courage and wisdom. Reading his blog on writing opened my eyes to the fact I wasn’t taking my writing seriously enough at all.
I was treating it like a hobby.
I was an amateur.
So I signed up for Jeff’s ‘Tribe Writers’ course. And immediately was whisked out of my comfort zone.
And it changed my life, and my writing forever.
The real challenge for me was the big project. For years I’ve been procrastinating about writing an e-book, or manifesto.I’d found every possible excuse not to. But the course nailed them all. Without fail.
Jeff challenged me not just to write it, but put it out there. Ship it. Put it in the public domain for all to see.
So, I sat down and wrote it. And then I published it – ‘5 Steps to Encouragement’. This was followed up by ‘Reflections on Encouragement’. Over time, the more I wrote, the more I shipped, the more I discovered my true voice. And so, I wrote and published a new e-book in 24 hours, on the art of authentic writing.
In 2015, I will publish my first ever printed works.
And all because I dared to step out, to get some accountability in my writing, and decided to turn pro.
Tribe Writers helped me discover my true writing voice. I found my niche. And in the process I found myself.
I can safely say, without the Tribe Writers course, I wouldn’t have written any of these works, and I wouldn’t already be thinking of ideas for new projects for the coming years.
Well, I would. But they would be fantasies. Not realistic possibilities.
Becoming a Tribe Writer has opened my eyes to what is possible.
It has challenged me to step out in courage.
Like any process of transformation, it’s not been easy or painless. But it has been good.
And on top of all of this, I have discovered an amazing group of people to go on this journey with. A community of writers walking this road with me. Offering me support, both emotional and practical, as I take this walk of faith.
I’ve also had encouraging words from close friends outside the course telling me how they see me discovering my writing voice. Without knowing one of the chapters/sections of the course is all about ‘Finding your voice’.
It’s hard to say there is a ‘best thing’ about this course, as there are so many. But there are two lifetime blessings I’ve received.
First, a lifetime access to all the course resources – so I can over the course as many times as I like.
And second, the incredible relationships I’ve built up. Which will last a lifetime, I am certain.
Becoming a Tribe Writer has transformed me from an amateur to a professional.
But not just with my writing.
With my entire life. (tweet that here)
Because if any of us are going to grow, we can’t stand still. We have to step out. We have to take risks. We have to leave our comfort zone behind.
If we don’t, our lives might be safer. But we won’t become the people we were made to be.
Do you really want that?
Tribe Writers is running again very soon. If you’re a writer of any kind, I’d love you to be part of it. No matter where you are on your writing journey, it’s easily accessible. You get lifetime access to the resources – videos, podcasts, exclusive offers, training, encouragement – so can do it at your own pace.
Yes, it does cost a little bit – but the benefits far outweigh the cost. You will grow not just as a writer, but as a human being too.
You can find out about the course (and sign up) here – if you can’t sign up this time, bear it in mind for the future. They run every two or three months.
I can absolutely guarantee you won’t regret it. I never will.
Without doubt, doing ‘Tribe Writers’ was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
It might be the same for you too.
So if you’re a writer looking for your voice, trying to find your niche, wanting to turn pro, take a step of faith.
