You Already Change The World – So Change It Well (Five Minute Friday)
(Picture: Richard Freeman via Creative Commons)
Today I’m participating in Lisa-Jo Baker’s “Five-Minute Friday”. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, it’s simple: Write for 5 minutes, straight from the heart, on a given subject – and then share it. No edits, no marinading or reflecting – just write and share.
Today’s word is ‘encouragement’. And as encouragement is one of my biggest passions, I just had to join in. Here we go:
START…
Have you ever wondered if you could change the world? It’s an over-used phrase, I don’t like to use it lightly. Well I’m here to tell you – you do change the world.
Each and every day, you change the world.
You shape the destiny of the people of this planet.
How?
With your words.
However you speak towards others, whatever you say to them about who they are, about what they’ve achieved or could achieve – especially to those close to you – leaves a legacy. It shapes their lives.
If I hadn’t received encouragement – both as a child, and as an adult, I wouldn’t be a writer now. I probably would be drifting without purpose or knowing my calling.
But because I received the right words at the right time, I followed through on my writing. I moved forward. And now I’ve written a full length book for the first time.
All because of encouragement.
You see, our words shape the world. They change the destiny, not of just one persons life, but of many. My writing, will shape others. And the impact of my writing hopefully will go on to shape others.
So much like a stone thrown in still water, the small words of encouragement to me, have created ripples. Ripples which may go on and on, and which I may never see, and the people who encouraged me might not see.
This is the power of encouragement. And you have it.
So choose your words wisely. Because your words will change the world one way or another – and none of us wants to be the person whose words stop someone achieving their life calling, and impacting others for good.
Make sure the way you change the world is a positive one. Let your legacy be good. Cultivate the art of encouragement.
Are you with me?
…STOP.

Well done. Not only your writing and thoughts, but your courage to blog when the blogging world, and especially five-minute-Friday, is largely populated by women.
I appreciate the concept that our words change the world. And yet we throw them around so freely…James had it right when he wrote about being unable to tame the tongue and that the tongue was the rudder that changed the direction of the ship.
Thanks Joy, appreciate your kind words – glad the post resonated with you.
Yay, good for you and those that gave you encouragement.
Thanks Pea, appreciate it!
